Different But Me!

Tween Fiction · Ages 10–15 · Scoliosis Awareness

Some battles are invisible. Some curves are permanent.

Elliana knows she is different, but she isn't always sure how to explain it. After being diagnosed with scoliosis, she faces doctor visits, questions from classmates, wearing a back brace, and eventually the possibility of surgery.

Along the way, Elliana learns that being different does not make her less — it makes her uniquely herself. With the support of family, friends, and caring adults, she discovers strength, confidence, and the courage to embrace her journey.

Different But Me! is a heartfelt story that encourages children to celebrate their differences and find beauty in what makes them unique — inspired by Emily's own scoliosis diagnosis at age 14 and her spinal fusion surgery on July 26, 2016. June is Scoliosis Awareness Month.
